Balloon 07:54
red and white they filled the sky as all the planes began to take flight we would chase them around and hold them down we'd swallow them up until we retched them out we'd scream and we'd shout about our stomachs and how they hurt us until our bodies brought a world full of snips and snails and little girls filling stockings with curls and locks licking lips til mother would stop and wipe the rings around their mouths waiting for more wings to leak out on the clouds behind your house where silence sings and grows so loud we'd look for lights to shine down but not a single one was found now i see you dancing down the stage in dreams where i met you we snuck right into the room where we disappeared and i hope that i'll find you there when i awake and care to share i'll have grown no new facial hair although its been a year there will still be no sign of a beard your body's rejecting the love that i'm sending out from my lungs to help you keep breathing i hope you're not leaving me like this so give me your kiss let our souls manifest themselves upon our lips and make us feel like kids when my heart had a whole that your smile could mend now fire is filling up this room and i am blowing into you just like a balloon and though we are laughing and smiling and crying i know that that is why i'm trying to save you for you are a friend just like a brother and when this all is over i know we'll hold each other and we can talk about it from the top of our mountain or downtown at the fountain where the water overflows fingers become bones shadows fade out with the glow for now this room is slower lay your head upon my shoulder brother and i will cling to you and you can cling to me and in this way we will sink but i will never leave and we will give our hearts to everyone we meet along the way

Wise Up 05:56
when you broke your brother's toys never thinking he would tell your mother you were both just little boys always getting into lots of trouble now its too late to do what you didn't do but who you hurt aint all your fault when you broke your best friends face fighting over who you thought was better at those silly games you'd play never thinking that they didn't matter now its too late to do what you didn't do but who you hit aint all your fault when you broke your sisters heart never thinking she would really miss you you drove away in your car she was crying when you went out of view now its too late to do what you didn't do but who you leave aint always your fault and when you broke your lovers pact never thinking you would ever miss it you think that all these things will last and so you tend to leave them so unfinished and now its too late to do what you didn't do and what youve got aint much at all its never too late to do what you didnt do cus what you've got ain't much at all

talking of nothing but sweetcakes and milkshakes in that space between sleep and awake how certain you used to be of yourself entering places with secret handshakes folding sacred paper airplanes how funny it was to have you on my floor and we dress up in our play clothes as parents would take our picture where they'll hang em in their memories so they can remember from your mouth sweet sounds escape wings shot out of your shoulder blades how wonderful it must be to not be yourself an actress replaced when mary got pregnant allowing me to flow through her movements how fun it must be to sing so loud and we dress up in our fathers clothes as kids would take our picture where they'll hang em in our memories so we can remember

Pretty Mess 05:19
and when we were young i used to crawl into bed you were a pretty mess talking of god images and when we were warned we had to bow our heads we started faking it cus nothing is sacred except when you make it a long time ago there were angels in the snow there were castles in the clouds where i touched your mouth and your blood came pouring out and o'er my eyes and i dreamt of the place where you and i will die and when we were born you looked at me and said that we'd be better off dead but we just laughed instead about our nakedness about the life we were about to have

marys got drugs that she takes in doses and i suppose that they make her feel better they fill her up with lots and lots of thoughts that get lost in the froth on the tip of her kisser we stay inside where its nice and dry while the clouds cry and the world gets wetter and we're so happy or maybe we're sad we don't know mary picks roses by the dozens from the green green garden that the neighbors planted she plucks off their petals and offers them as medals to the kids that pin them on their parkas and sweaters the clouds assemble and the sky resembles marshmellows in a blender with an egg yellow center and we're so dreamy or maybe we're lucid we don't know mary laughs and she overdoes it like she always does but it makes me feel better she fills me up with lots and lots of love but its just not enough so she gives up early we catch a peak and try not to blink at all the pretty things we shouldn't see so prematurely and i'm so afraid or maybe fascinated i don't know mary stares as she overdoses now i suppose you'll never get the chance to meet her a rush of love that comes and floods her blood is just enough to make her wanna feel this way forever and all the while her beauty rivals the smile of a child that is learning to remember and we're so high or maybe we're low we don't know ..filibuster.. in this circle of people i'm looking at her she's off to the side coming down a slide and mary's spinning round in circles she asks me to join in but i just smile and we all join hands together.. i was strapped down to the mattress awaiting what would come next and the drugs that were once in my head are now coming out of my chest and we all sing a song together... in this circle of people i'm looking at her she's off to the side doing another line and merry's on the microphone trying to get me to leave her alone but i still try and we all just smile together... and you were stripped down naked with just a bracelet around your wrist and the dreams that were once in your head are now all being laid to rest and it all will come together it all will come together...

oh what a world you fell into oh what a world you fell into they took the god image out of you darling dream of a dress you will wear when we dance round in circles holding hands with all the other children and when we return we will lay down in her shade we'll chop her branches make a boat to sail away oh what a world you fell into oh what a world you fell into they placed the god image into you oh country girl you're the one i adore you have my heart and i have yours and when we return we'll make crowns of fallen leaves parade in play clothes of the forest we'll be kings and queens

about

Live performance by The Neapolitan Children on June 16, 2011 at Pulp in Asheville. The players were Joseph Michael Chang, Faith Adan Callaway, Christopher Bruce Lee, and Gordan Romero Wallace, with guest Hannah Lynn Cruey. Recorded by Evan Wilson Hill.

We flubbed a little, in some spots, but hopefully we weren't too bad. I do not know about rights, copyrights, what have you, pertaining to the cover songs, but the album is absolutely free, and we're not claiming to reserve any rights at all. Also, Track 2, referred to as a song about growing up, is set to the riff/basic structure of a song by David Wingo, who performs under Ola Podrida, called "Run Off The Road", (which is a lovely song, you should look it up) so, I make no claims on it, it was merely a story/words that came to mind while listening to it, and, in the tradition of folk, i merely set lyrics to music that is already there, etc. Hopefully he doesn't mind, it was never meant to be played to more than two people, and I'll probably never play it again, I broke a string on the first song, so had to improvise while it got fixed.
Well, that is all, hope you enjoy. Thank you very much.
